Day 21

Ever wonder what they think?
This is Thor. He is our Great Dane. I always wonder what they are thinking about.

  3. They are very easy and he really doesn't eat as much as people think they do. The only concern is when they are puppies and growing fast. They need a lower protein food. We have had all our Danes on Nutro. It's not cheap. He used to eat 3 times a day, he is down to about 1 to 2. They are a house dog, they are huge lap dogs. Every single one we have had like to lean on you, so you have to be ready at all times. They are very, very sweet dogs. They are also protective of their family. You do have to watch out for their tails though. When they get excited that tail hurts, and can knock anything over in the way! They don't like to be alone! They get true anxiety when they can't be by their family! The hard part is they don't live as long (5-8 years) and they can bloat. I have had 2 bloat and we lost them. They were 5 when they did. After Thor is gone we are going to take a break for a bit and then I would love another female again. But they make wonderful family pets. It's advised to keep them away from steps unsupervised due to how fragile their joints are for the first year or so. There are wonderful websites that have a ton of info for you. I just love them. I tried a smaller dog but that didn't work out. We are big dog people!

  5. I love Danes! I worked at a vet clinic and we used to get a harlequin in that was a junk yard guard dog for baths. He was so loving and he just groaned and grinned the whole time we washed the grime off his coat.

  6. They are wonderful! It just gets to me when they are kept outside especially at a junk yard. He was probably excited to just be clean and have the extra attention that they need!
